Frequently Asked Questions
The Smiddy Fun Run is held in memory of PA Hospital physio Adam Smiddy who died of a melanoma in 2006 at just 26 years of age. Since then, a fun run has been held on the PA hospital grounds in his memory. In 2020 and 2021 the event was held virtually and in the format of ‘Smiddy Fun Week’ due to COVID-19 restrictions.
To date the Smiddy Fun Run event has raised over $150,000 for skin cancer research at the PA Hospital Campus. Join us and help raise funds for vital skin cancer research and treatment options by signing up for the Smiddy Fun Run here.
Unfortunately due to circumstances out of our control, we had to postpone the 2022 Smiddy Fun Run to early 2023 in order to ensure that our return to a physical event at the PA would be as fun and as safe as possible. We hope you’ll join us in 2023 and continue to support the incredible work of the researchers and clinicians here at the PA Hospital while honouring the memory of Adam Smiddy.
In 2022, melanoma is set to impact the lives of over 16,870 Australians, which is why researchers are working tirelessly in their fight against skin cancer. Every dollar you raise will go to support their work. If every participant raised a minimum of $150, we would raise $50,000 to support skin cancer research. Every little bit helps so reach out to your family, friends and colleagues, let them know what your fundraising for and how their support will help – your community would love to support you but they won’t unless you ask!
We will help you every step of the way and give you the tools you need.
